So maybe the term isn’t so common yet but pedestrian rage is definitely a ‘thing’, I see it every day in London. 😤
Tutting, huffing and puffing at slow moving buggy pushers, the five friends who walk side by side taking up the entire width of the pavement, the sound of an irritable voice clearing it’s throat purposefully in your ear (presumably a euphemism for I’d like to get passed please).
Oh and the classic evil glare from pedestrian to driver, where the driver fails to indicate on a corner.
The dodgers
I see people dodging traffic, daring drivers ‘not to slow down’ for them while the traffic lights are still green. 🚦 Not so much of a dare in other parts of the world though, more like a way of life….
The road runners
Next you’ve got the rushers, darting around like there’s no tomorrow, (even indoors). You are always in ‘their way’ – admittedly there have been occasions where I’ve longed for a fast path/lane for pedestrians on certain streets, and a slow lane for the more leisurely or sight seeing orientated pedestrian. 😊
Speaking of which, what’s happening with all that talk about pedestrianising Oxford Street – a brilliant idea…is that still going ahead? 🙌
The cyclists
Now don’t get me started on the cyclists who miraculously decide to shape shift into pedestrians when the green man appears at a crossing – pedestrians on wheels!! 🤨 🚴🏼♀️
The dancers
Then there are those moments when pedestrians do what I call the ‘which way dance’ where both choose the same side of the pavement thinking the other person will choose the other, both bopping from left to right, sometimes its funny, sometimes not. 💃🏻 🕺🏽
Worse still, the pedestrians who have firmly decided they will not ‘give way’ and refuse to budge an inch to let another walk by. 🥊
Pedestrian rage is real, it’s not just road rage!
Have you been affected?

LOL this is so true, it also applies in Supermarket aisles!!
Cherryl
Yes!!! Very true.
Laura Blackburn
I know what you mean
Anxiety Mummy
I personally think those that don’t have a lunch hour and can spend any time of day running errands or browsing shops should be encouraged to remain indoors at peak times such as lunch and pre 9am / post 5pm – I can’t stand seeing my lunch time slip away because I’m waiting in a queue of people that could clearly do what they’re doing at any hour!
Cherryl
Good point, if I have any errands to run I try and get out around 2pm+ rather than the normal lunch period 😩

“Now don’t get me started on the cyclists who miraculously decide they are also pedestrians when the green man appears at the crossing”
Haha totally agree on this one 🙂
Cherryl
So annoying 😤

I used to live in London and now live in Edinburgh.. it’s almost as bad here. Nothing worse than when people take up the whole of the path AND walk really slowly!!
Cherryl
Deep breaths 😒
milli
Living life in the fast lane isn’t my cup of tea!
Cherryl
Probably wise!

I’ll stay put in this lovely sleepy town in North Wales thanks, it sounds horrendous! Still, my daughter loves living and working in London. I do feel old…
Cherryl
City life serves a purpose for the most part, but eventually everyone will start thinking of escaping!
Candyfloss
It shoould be legal to shove people out of your way if they are staring at their phones and not watching where they’re going! @Natterjacktoad7
Cherryl
I feel your frustration lol 😫
Empress2976 (@Empress2976)
I get this due especially with people walking really slowly or stopping dead in front of you!
Cherryl
Hmmm, when people stop right in front of you and then wonder why you bump into them 😖 waiting for ‘you’ to apologise 😳 smh
Mary H
Haha yes – it’s very real in London. I live in Bristol which is quite laid back. I walk very fast, but there is enough room here I guess to overtake the slower paced folk.
Cherryl
Sounds a lot less stressful lol 🙂
Michelle Wild
I felt like this all the time when I lived in London….move for your sanity.
Cherryl
Lol, one sweet day!
clairew137
I feel this way too.
Kirsty Hosty
People who don’t say thank you when you hold doors for them in shops and especially for me when I move out the way with my pushchair for people to get past grrr. Manners don’t cost anything
Cherryl
Totally with you on the manners issue – it takes nothing to say thank you….so rude!
janine atkin
pushchairs get me. why is it always me that has to dive out of the way? im all for giving them room but my god, some pushchair people think they own the street
Cherryl
I’m with you on that one – they seem to think they have some ‘unspoken right of way’😠
isis1981uk
I really get this, although I never show it! I HATE people who walk too slowly!!
Judith Hamilton
They are not walking slowly for the fun of it but probably just can’t go faster because of problems with feet and/or legs/hips lets have a bit of compassion.
Cherryl
I’m guilty too, at times!
Sally Collingwood
The Trouble With Goats, what a fab prize!
Ruth Harwood
There’s a pedestrian crossing near us that the cars ignore my right of way at every time – risk life and limb getting across!!
Cherryl
Arrogant drivers – very annoying – and such a lack of respect for people’s safety – they should be caught on cctv and fined/given points.

You’ve just depicted London perfectly!
I used to live in town and I was shocked by its disorienting hustle. That is also what I mentioned in one of my posts 😊
Cherryl
I’ve read your post – it’s spot on!! If you’re not from a fast city environment, London is a bit like jumping into a cold bath until you climates to it.
Mrs Strawberry Blonde
I’m a Londoner too and I agree 100%!
Pedestrian rage IS real.
Cherryl
So true, no wonder everyone’s looking for a way out lol
