RIU hotels are known for being pretty standard wherever you go and this one in Negril, Jamaica was a typical all inclusive beach front style with spacious rooms , mountains of food and brilliant entertainment each evening.
Rooms were spread over four blocks along the beach strip with a fair bit of walking distance between then, with no lifts at the time.
The holiday reps were hyper all the time but they worked exceptionally hard  – especially with all the entertainment routines they put on throughout the day and evening.
The rooms include a mini bar – with bottles of spirits as as well as a fridge stocked with Red Stripe and soft drinks every other day.

After being let down with some of the tours we booked via the hotel tour reps and Thomson rep (i.e. the tour operators didn’t bother turning up to pick us up on the mornings we booked for – and any member of staff you spoke to wanted to wash their hands of the problem), I would strongly recommend you simply hire a return taxi to take you to the places you want to visit.
There was too much food to mention.
All those people who complained about the food on Trip Adviser – well I’m not sure what they eat at home but there was everything under the sun at this hotel.
There was only one jerk chicken hut at the time and it was always like this, with a super long queue.

Riu Palace is a prettier hotel with a nicer and quieter beach area, however, it seemed to lack any atmosphere. Riu Club is certainly a lot livelier and seems to have a bigger crowd.

Yes it certainly had a more colonial feel about it with the dark wood furniture etc… apparently it has had a refurb’ since. From people I know and the mountains of reviews I’ve read, Ocho Rios sounds like a particularly nice Jamaican RIU and it’s beach is said to be one of the nicer – I’d like to head there if/when I’m in Jamaica again in the future.
