Just a few random snaps from another idle wander around Leeds city centre on a rainy afternoon – not your run of the mill high street shops, since you’ve probably seen enough of that on your own doorsteps, and they can get a bit monotonous, seen it all before type of thing.

On this particular day, I managed to snap a few things that looked a bit less ordinary!

I’d heard about kilo sales and seen vintage kilo events advertised on Eventbrite, but I’d never come across a kilo shop! Interesting concept, and very much in tune with reducing waste, and embracing more sustainable fashion. Has anyone been to a kilo sale?

Corn Exchange

If you’re familiar with Leeds you’ll probably know this dome shaped historic building very well. Bang in the middle of Leeds city centre, full of one-off independent shops.

I think I read about the Chilli Shop in Time Out a while ago, it’s one of Leeds’ iconic quirky shops and perfect for chilli connoisseurs.

I forgot to get a photo of this cave of intrigue!! I ended up buying some essential oils and the manager gave me this card on the way out suggesting I have a look at the website.

  4. What a lovely tour – thanks for sharing.
    I used to work in Leeds, as a beer taster for Tetley’s Brewery at Hunslet! The city centre has changed beyond recognistion since I was last there. It looks so vibrant.

      Yes Leeds has definitely evolved over the years from what I an see, lots more shops, but still not really a geared up as a tourist city. Leeds seems to be morphing into something else. If you ever come in via train it’s shocking to see the amount of new tower blocks and apartment buildings being built, more and more and more like a forest of towers…🏙

      I’ve never actually been to a kilo sale, so I can’t tell you for me personally, but I’ve heard other people talk about them and vlog about them in the UK, they’re normally advertised and you have to buy tickets and queue for hours by all accounts lol, mainly students though, and a lot of the clothes they pick up seem to be vintage sports-wear, so great if you’re into that kind of thing as it’s usually quite expensive to buy the vintage stuff nowadays…I’d be curious to hear of any that differ from this though 🛍

  9. Sheree – Cote d'Azur – I'm a sports mad Englishwoman, now living (thank goodness) in France, who developed a passion for cycling rather late on in life. I started the blog to keep my friends and family up-to-date with my adventures on two wheels, my recipes, my travels and my wonderful life in France. The title of my blog refers to when I first started cycling with my local club. I was always at the back of the bunch, until I slid off it on the first incline! On short climbs I could always catch back up on the ascent but on long climbs......I just used to bid them farewell and continue at my own speed. My cycling’s now much improved but I still get dropped!

    What interesting shops there. I particularly like the Corn Exchange with its individual shops. I love places like that. I like to support small businesses when I can. Is this Leeds in the UK (Yorkshire), or is there a Leeds City in the USA? I noted that the Kilo store has £ in the window and not $. I thought you were in America (no idea why I should assume that!) I’ve never been to Leeds over here. Mind you, I haven’t been anywhere much. Perhaps, I should pay it a visit. I like train travel – it’s relatively easy (on the mainlines) with a wheelchair. Mmm …

    1. Thanks for reading Ellie, this is Leeds in the UK, 100% good old Yorkshire!! I’m UK based lol, sometimes I do the same and get an idea in my head about where people from – like building a character 😊

      Like you, I like to support independent shops wherever I can, plus they usually have more interesting and unique things for sale,different from the latest trends. Wow, I had no idea there was a ‘Leeds’ in the USA as well, that’s really interesting ✨ I wonder if they have much in common…
      Yes, I notice that wheelchair accommodation on mainline trains/stations is very much the norm these days, as it should be really👌 If you do get around to it, have a lovely time in Leeds 🔆

        I wonder why I assumed you were in America. I think my son may be moving up to Yorkshire in a few months. I’ll miss him terribly as he’s not that far from me in Essex at the moment. But, that’s another story. I’m not sure if there is a Leeds in the USA – I guess, as I assumed you were from there that there would then also be a Leeds as well.
