More from Morecambe: A Few Other Bits

Following on from our earlier seafront walk in Morecambe, here’s another quick look around the seafront, including the crazy bookshop, and that weird smell!

Does anyone still like seaside rock? I used to like the red dummies – too sweet for me now!

The Old Pier Bookshop in Morecambe

This is quite a famous bookshop, and a curiosity for tourists, known for being chaotic inside with no sense of order – but apparently the owner can find whatever you want.

What on earth is going on in here? 😊

Quirky Shop: Beach Bird

A tiny narrow independent gift type shop, jam packed with allsorts of weird and quirky things.

Reversible hand made bags

Festival Market

The strange and quite overpowering smell in the festival market was coming from these:

I think this was a pet shop stall.

The rest of the stalls were a bit more mainstream with a couple of antique types and a jigsaw stall.

Other bits

So he has an office base in Morecambe then!!

Chip on a stick 🤔

Oh, wow!! What a wonderful place! I’d be in my element there. I’ve never been to Morecambe (only Southend and Broadstairs – UK). Neither have I seen a town with so much colour, variety and totally fascinating things to see and do. I’m impressed and would love to visit, but I think the journey from Essex would be a bit too much of a challenge for me. I like book and bric-a-brac shops, too and could spend weeks up there just browsing and probably buying far too many random objects that I probably wouldn’t need. Oh, the temptation! The only stall I wouldn’t like is the pet food stall – ugh! Do people really buy goat tracheas to feed their pets on? Peanut (my cat) won’t be getting any of those, I’m afraid. She’ll have to make do with Felix 😂 xx.

P.S. I only found this post in my inbox last night; I read it but didn’t have time to comment. I wonder where it’s been over the previous four days. Very odd. I’m pleased to have read it all properly now, though. X 💐

    1. Yes, it would be a bit of a trek just for a day. I’ve been to Southend as well, on a bank holiday it was absolutely heaving with crowds, while Morecambe is much much more low key. I’d never seen anything like that pet shop before – interesting delicacies, the smell was awful 😊 I’m sure Felix is tasty enough for Peanut (aww bless) lol. I am pretty haphazard with reading blogs and keeping up with comments tbh so probably never notice the inbox glitches, but thanks for taking the time to have a read ✨💛

Southend is always heaving on a bank holiday or at any time during the summer. I went there for a week at the height of the busy season, but I love the hustle and bustle of the place, although weaving in and out of the crowds in a wheelchair was a bit of a challenge, as you can imagine. It was the first time I’d ever been away alone, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’d love to go back again this year, but firstly, I can’t afford it, and secondly, I don’t want to leave Peanut in a cattery or have her shut in the house on her own for that length of time. She was a rescue, and I hadn’t thought at the time about going away, not that I regret having her at all. I love her dearly, as you know.

I think you shared another post after this one, and I thought I’d left a tab open so that I could find it again. Please, could you send me a link to it as I’d love to read it? Your posts are always a delight to read and so refreshing. I always feel like I’ve been around the places you write about for a long walk. Some blogs I read can be pretty hard work, although I still enjoy reading them; I’ve got about thirty sitting in my inbox as I was busy all day yesterday! However, yours is like a breath of fresh air. Thanks for taking me along with you if you know what I mean. Take care. Love Ellie xx 🥰

        1. Peanut is a very lucky to have you – I bet he’s a very happy cat 😊

The hustle and bustle os Soightend was great, and I had the best fish and chips I’ve ever had in Southend lol – I think it was ‘Neptunes’!! So good and worth the ridiculous queue 😋

More and more I just feel grateful for the places I’ve managed to see in life so far, but that urgency to be going away, packing a suitcase etc has simmered down over the last couple of years (lockdowns probably helped bring this on).

Thanks Ellie, It’s nice to hear that you enjoy my posts, I think you’ve seen all the most recent ones, the only other post I’ve done recently is the one about wild boar – bit random, I didn’t know I was going to see these until I got there:

I remember Neptunes very well, Cherryl. I treated myself to fish and chips (before I was vegan); they were just the best fish and chips I’d tasted. I think they were, without doubt, the best in Southend. I’d like to return sometime, but now I’ve got Peanut; I can’t stay for a week again (I couldn’t afford the hotel either these days). I don’t like the thought of leaving her in the care of someone else for too long. Perhaps, I’ll go on a day trip sometime soon. I’d enjoy that. I could still cram in some Neptune’s chips, some candy floss and a doughnut (not all at once, naturally 😁). If I go, I’ll be sure to write a post about it. Take care, Cherryl. Xx 💖🌞💚

            2. Oh yes, day trips are much easier and sometimes just enough really. I used to have tropical fish. Neptunes mushy peas and curry sauce were both really nice – the sauce had a bit of a kick too 😋 candy floss and doughnuts for dessert (so sweet though) I’m making myself hungry now 😊 I hope you get to pop up there again, if we get some more warm weather – keep an eye on the forecaste 🔆x

Ooh … tropical fish! I grew up with lots of them. My Mum used to keep them in a big tank – neons, guppies, angel fish, mollies etc. And the little snails clung to the glass, eating all the algae off the surface. Happy memories x 🐠🐟🐡🥰
