Trees on Canvas from an Urban Forest!

I’m one of those people who seem to have an unnecessarily huge number of photographs of trees.

Trees are fabulously photogenic, a strong vibrant burst of nature. It’s hard not to keep taking pics, so I might as well paint a few! 🌳

This is the signature long ‘tree roofed/lined’ aisle leading from London Walthamstow Central station into the main shopping area, it’s an absolutely beautiful long green arch in the summertime, when the trees are full and leafy – a lovely dose of tree therapy!

Around Christmas these trees are usually decorated with pretty blue lights – and the colours in the autumn are a work of art, stunning. 🍁 🍃 🍂

Acrylic on canvas: Walthamstow Central, London

Working from the original photo (further down below), I ended up being very happy with this final piece, it really takes me back to that very place.

I think I’ve mentioned before that – for a concrete jungle, London is surprisingly green, with a generous helping of green spaces all over the place. Time Out highlights it as ‘The World’s Largest Urban Forest’ much of it being across the central boroughs of London, not just the leafier outer zones 🧐

Interesting – that grand title must have earned London a Guinness Book of World Records slot then, surely!!

  2. Paula R.C. Readman – England – After spending many years writing to be published and finding a small amount of success with my six books I've decided to turn my back on writing novels and focus my time on painting and writing short stories instead. The publishing world is awash with books, as every day more writers publish their books in the hope of fame and fortune. Marketing my books, I found to be both expensive and unrewarding as I competed with thousands of other books. After the publisher of my three novels decided it was a tough business as a publisher and closed their doors, I decided to call it a day, too. My first love has always been art. It would be silly of me not to focus on my paintings, which are selling much better than my books. Next year, I hope to have my first art exhibition. So, watch this space. Keep Your Dreams Alive.

Can’t say for what reason in the morning I saw a rangoli design in a picture shared here by a friend and I pointed out, incidently that design was also a good example of “optical illusion”. In your painting I again noted another simple example of this. Though the street is uniformly wide all over, yet why the far end looks narrow while the near one broad! It’s what makes this painting “realistic”. Did you note this subtlety?

  10. Jennifer Pentland Art – United States – I’m Jennifer Pentland, a self-taught artist from the United States whose creative journey began on the stage. Dance was my first language of expression, a way to translate emotion into movement. In time, that same rhythm and feeling found a new canvas in painting. Working primarily in oil and acrylic, I am drawn to the depth, texture, and emotion they offer. Nature is my greatest muse. I paint not only what I see but what I feel – the light shifting through the seasons, the joy in everyday moments. My style blends abstract and contemporary influences, guided by emotion and intuition. Some works are serene, others bold, each telling its own story. Many of my pieces are tied to charitable causes, reflecting my belief that art can uplift, inspire, and give back.

What a lovely painting! Your perspective is spot on. 👏👏

  11. kagould17 – Not much to tell. After working for 3 companies over 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I had waited my entire career for……retirement. I have been exploring this new career for the past 7+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wants has been very fulfilling. Early on, there was a long list of projects in my “to-do” hopper and I attacked these projects with a vengeance for the first 9 months of retirement. Eventually, my brain told me that this was not what retirement was about, so it took me another 5 months before my industriousness again took over and I attacked another line of projects, this time somewhat shorter and less complicated, as well as many new projects related to the family weddings in 2016. After going hard for 6 weeks and 3 weddings, my body was telling me to relax, then the flu bug hit and as soon as that was done with me, my sciatic acted up. No rest for the wicked. In 2020 and 2021, the Covid 19 pandemic changed the whole retirement gig. I was lucky to not be still working, for sure. I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may never become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

I agree. Trees are always a source of comfort and amazement. Despite the abuse foisted on them by insects, weather and man, they keep on keeping on, cleaning the air, shading us and providing beauty. Happy Sunday CherryLynn. Allan

I really love your painting. It is nice to know that there are places like that in London. Kind of like Central Park in New York. It is a welcome bit of nature in the city.

I love the texture you have on your painting. You depicted these trees beautifully! Awesome work!
