Sofitel London Heathrow Airport Hotel Terminal 5: A Quick Look

Sofitel London Heathrow Airport Hotel Terminal 5: A Quick Look

If being bang-in the centre of T5 is a priority then this is your best option. Sofitel London Heathrow isn’t the most budget friendly but it can’t be beaten on location, especially for an early morning flight or landing at some crazy hour of the night.

No need to worry about taxis and shuttle buses.

That said, the good old Premier Inn is only a very short drive away, and always a reliable choice, a 5 min taxi ride to the terminal, I’ve done that before….there’s also a hopper bus (but I’m not sure how early in the morning they start).

Via London Underground, it’s a short indoor walk from the Piccadilly Line up into T5 Arrivals and over to the private dedicated internal walkway and entrance to the Sofitel…it does feel a bit ‘VIP’ walking along it, calm and quiet with soft music playing.

On first impressions, the hotel gives off a 5 star feeling and staff seemed very attentive.

Luxury Room

The mattress was lovely, very comfy and the pillows were luxuriously deep and soft – you could lose yourself in them!

Not that you can really tell from my pictures, the king bed is supremely high, love that – makes it look and feel more inviting. The Luxury Room is very spacious, and could easily have housed a big sofa and coffee table.

Any Complaints

My biggest complaint – the room felt cold, even when the heating was turned up high (typical of a lot of hotel rooms).

Lovely big desk if you need to spread things out – in fact the room had a lot of storage and surfaces to put things on.

Another thing was the sink – it was quite small and very high up with huge bulky metal sprout type tap and handles that crash into your head when you bend down to wash your face, and the taps were very stiff on the wrists to turn (battling with it soon warmed me up lol).

I’m sure many will have struggled with this….smashed head and strained wrists…..looks nice though – the tap that is!!!

Not the flimsy disposable types – nice quality.

Not many sockets in the room for charging devices.

Complimentary mini bar, biscuits and beverages – with some fresh juice instead of just fizzy canned drinks 👍

Can’t comment on the food – I ate out in the evening and had breakfast in the airport in Departures the next morning. There are breakfast menus in the room in case you want to order breakfast to your room.

There’s a hotel shop near reception, I didn’t go in there but a few shops were still open after 9pm in Arrivals – a stone’s throw from the hotel….including a mini Boots Chemist where I spied a tube of Oral B toothpaste for a whopping £11 and something pence (what is the world coming to); there were other slightly less worrying toothpaste prices in Departures though 😐

Interested in other UK airport hotels?

Sofitel in Gatwick Airport: located inside one of the terminals, can’t remember much, seemed nice, comfortable….I know I have a couple of pics somewhere – will add them when I find them.

My wife and I often book ahead at Heathrow hotels to avoid being late for our fights. Sofitel here seems like a convenient option at Terminal 5. We haven’t connected in awhile Cherryl. I’ll be writing more about international travel this winter if you don’t like my current road trip focus now. .

I don’t really dislike anything lol, just don’t always have time to keep up with everything but I’ll check it out, thanks for reaching out and flagging it up 🙏 Also – very wise to book into an airport hotel where you can. I feel so much more relaxed and at ease the night before a flight .🤗💫

After years of watching Terminal 5 being built, we had moved away by the time it was open, though my son ended up working there in World Duty Free ( where nothing was free and mostly expensive ). We used to put people up for free ( well friends ) overnight when we lived near Heathrow. I think I would choose to stay in a hotel overnight before an early flight. We used to belong to the health club at the Marriot hotel on the Bath Road. One time in the steam room someone asked where I was flying to and when I replied that I lived up the road he said ‘You mean people actually live around here!’

That was kind of you to put friends up like that, saving them a decent amount of money no doubt. Some people forget/don’t realise Heathrow is very much surrounded by residential homes 😊 despite being so huge, I’ve never lived near an airport but I imagine it must be nice to have moved away to somewhere quieter…and yes, everything feels overpriced, but they know you’ve got nowhere else to go once you’re in there lol!!

  5. Sheree – Cote d'Azur – I'm a sports mad Englishwoman, now living (thank goodness) in France, who developed a passion for cycling rather late on in life. I started the blog to keep my friends and family up-to-date with my adventures on two wheels, my recipes, my travels and my wonderful life in France. The title of my blog refers to when I first started cycling with my local club. I was always at the back of the bunch, until I slid off it on the first incline! On short climbs I could always catch back up on the ascent but on long climbs......I just used to bid them farewell and continue at my own speed. My cycling’s now much improved but I still get dropped!

    I rate Accor’s Sofitel hotels
