Save Away For A Rainy Day

A little rhyme I came up with!

Be wise with your money you’ll have the last laugh

Insurance, mortgages, ISA’s and tax

Shop savvy and smart, seek out the best deals

Take a packed lunch to work instead of splurging on meals

Regular savings will grow like a weed

Try to stop shopping for things you don’t need

It’s true this is all very easy to say, but try to improve just a little each day!!

Whenever I shop I always use Quidco and it all goes towards Christmas, because of work restrictions I usually do my shopping on a Sunday a cottoned on to reductions…. they have so much meat reduced in the chillers I can’t remember the last time I paid full price for meat! I just pop it in the freezer and get it out when I need it…. saves me around a third on my shopping bill every week.

I love to try and save!
My tip is to use a cash back site if you plan to shop online, Always shop around you will be surprised at how cheaper you can get your goodies than the first site you visit!

If you shop in Tesco, use the scan as you shop it is a great way to see how much you are spending!
Always bring a list with you otherwise you will end up buying lots of things you don’t really need.

Pop all your change in a pot and save, it’s amazing how much you can save by doing this #rainydaymoney

#RainyDayMonday I always skim from my bank account over into my savings. So if i have £63.50 i will transfer the £3.50 over and eventually your Savings will start going up. Also i tend to pick up any change i find lying around and put it in a jar amazing how much you can loose daily around the home lol. x

A few tips of mine are – don’t go shopping when you are hungry or with the kids (always costs more!), shop around when buying online and use cashback sites (any money I get from this I save for days out etc.), swap clubcard points for vouchers too you can get some really good deals! And a little one for at home is I have a money tin which I can only open with a tin opener. @SlLouise on twitter x

  5. Angie – United Kingdom – I’m Angie and I like lots of things, some of the things I like best are Harry Potter, Disney, Michael Ball, entering competitions, and my Canadian best friend Lauren. I’m a Brit who, sometimes, blogs, sometimes, vlogs; when I do those things I like to talk about the things I’m a fan of, my life and my family. I don’t go on a lot of adventures but when I do I like to share them. I enjoy reading and watching movies and old TV shows (like The A-Team and Quantum Leap). I’ve been known to enjoy a good ramble, and sometimes I talk about my weight loss journey. I have been overweight for most of my life and on never ending diets but I really want to succeed and find the one that is right for me.

#rainydaymoney ALways shop from a list and shop online for groceries, that way you can’t be tempted down an aisle you don’t need and buy stuff you don’t really want just because it’s ‘on offer’ or it looked nice. Also never shop on an empty stomach

Thanks for your tips, sounds like you’ve got some good strategies going. Snacks are definitely expensive on the go and multipacks from the supermarket are always cheaper – the same is true when taking snacks to work 💸💵

We have a great decision making tool for the kids – but it helps us a lot.
When we want to have take out, or go to the cinema – we have a a scale and weights and we have on one side the ‘weight’ of a holiday for all of us away, on the other we place the number of ‘weights’ of cinema trips, takeouts etc that we would have to decline in order to buy our holiday.

The kids will invariably go for a cheaper take out in order to get to their holiday quicker!

I buy things with yellow labels on in supermarkets, and I fill my freezer, I also check out supermarket magazines for money off coupons, also I bank online and every couple of days I do a think called ‘skimming’ basically you round your money down to the nearest £5 and put the excess into a savings account, it might only be like £1.48 or 50p, but it adds up and you don’t miss it, I’ve saved £30 a month some months by doing this.

Fill your time with things you like doing that are free like walking and taking in the scenery or something you love. it stops having too much spare time & surfing the internet & then spending money on things & impulse buys.
I find food shopping online helps, as I can see how much I’m spending rather than just throwing things in the trolley, some online supermarkets have free delivery slots if you book them slightly outside the popular hours, like 9-10pm In the evening

  9. Gbolabo Adetunji – Atmosphere – Life presents us with countless paths, some visible and others hidden beneath the surface of thought and curiosity. As I contemplate the value of these paths, I often find myself caught between two states of being: that of the wonderer and the wanderer. Both are seekers, but they explore different realms. The question I return to, time and again, is whether it is better to be a wonderer—who explores the mind and spirit—or a wanderer, who roams the world’s physical landscapes. To be a wonderer is to dive deep into the realms of imagination, to question the unknown, and to constantly seek answers. A wonderer observes life with an open heart, engaging in endless curiosity, not content with the surface but always searching for hidden meanings. Philosophers, poets, and dreamers are wonderers, ever captivated by the "why" behind existence. They create worlds from their thoughts, finding joy in the mysteries of life, even if no concrete answers emerge. Yet, there is something alluring about the life of a wanderer as well. A wanderer moves through the world, discovering new places, meeting new people, and learning through experience. While a wonderer is grounded in thought, a wanderer is propelled by action. The wanderer feels the wind, touches the earth, and breathes in the scent of unfamiliar lands. Through this physical journey, the wanderer collects stories, cultures, and wisdom that cannot be found solely in introspection. However, both approaches to life have their limitations. The wonderer risks being trapped in endless contemplation, sometimes missing out on the richness of real-world experiences. The wanderer, on the other hand, may become so absorbed in the act of movement that they forget to pause and reflect, to consider the deeper meanings behind their travels. Perhaps the answer lies in balance. To live fully, one must embrace both wonder and wandering. The wonderer should step outside and engage with the world, while the wanderer should take moments of stillness to reflect on their experiences. After all, to wonder without wandering is to be lost in thought, and to wander without wonder is to be aimless. Ultimately, whether it is better to be a wonderer or a wanderer depends on the person. But as I ponder this question, I see value in both. One offers the joy of inquiry, while the other offers the beauty of discovery. Perhaps the best journey is one that intertwines both. I wish that savings grow like a weed. No planning, no ploughing, no planting, no pruning and no picking. Yet they thrive vibrantly.

Putting a little aside – often (no matter how small) is usually the way to start!

But dipping into it is the thing that can be hard so best to set up a standing order so that you can’t your hands on it too easily 🙂
