Coco Reef Hotel and Spa, Tobago

It felt like being in the old fashioned home of your West Indian granny, the only thing missing was the white net curtains and plastic table covers.

The Coco Reef Hotel and Spa in Scarborough, Tobago, felt cosy and welcoming, not pretentious or flashy.

Floral patterns, wicker furniture, and bright colours were the order of the day – none of that ‘all white bedding and minimalist decor’.

The room was very spacious, it had an old fashioned TV with a bump at the back and a balcony that took you out into the tropical hotel gardens, with an air filled with bird calls.

The beach is small and private with calm water and deep white sand.

Diana Ross is known to have enjoyed a stay at the Coco Reef, many moons ago!

Did I mention that I’m not a light traveller?

Well the Coco Reef didn’t have a lift, and a member of hotel staff carried my suitcase up the staircase to my room and the handle broke off the suitcase in the process – it was a bit on the heavy side!!ย

Other handy things to note

  • 5 min drive from the airportย
  • 2 min walk to Store Bay public beach – with store holders and food seller
  • Approx 20 min walk to Pigeon Point beach

Before booking a stay at the Coco Reef, I remember driving past it for the first time shortly after leaving the airport; it grabbed my attention with its fabulous sky high palm trees on it’s entrance path and the brightly coloured building beyond the palm trees. I wasn’t sure what it was but I wanted to go in and have a nosey around.
