Quick Cuppa!

There’s always time for another quick cuppa!

Kettle’s on. We should try and do this more often, there’s always something to make idle chatter about.

It’s been nice to slow right down on the blogging front for a while but let’s get back to a bit of the usual banter over a nice steaming cuppa.

Mine’s a mint tea. The teapot and cup picture were taken at a quick stop in this quirky little restaurant with a moon and stars lighting theme….nice little escape for some idling time.

Peppermint oil is one that I use a lot at home – a few choice drops can help refresh your mind, uplifting your mood and breathing with a clean fresh feeling, even if just a quick whiff from a tissue.

Blogging

Well AI hasn’t taken over yet, and hopefully never will. I still enjoy seeking out bloggers and posts that offer a unique or fresh content style….since there seems to be a lot of content out there that sounds like it’s either been copied from somewhere or AI generated….with sentences that sound robot-written.

Hats off to everyone who has continued blogging over the years and remaining authentic with their content, love that!! 🥂 💫

Platforms like Tik Tok haven’t grabbed me. Unlike the growing norm, I don’t like short videos – I like something lengthy that I can absorb and get into. I like to get into a story or a journey. If a piece of content is over in 5 mins it means I’m wasting a lot of time scrolling and looking, and absorbing nothing….hate that. Lol, documentaries and 2hrs+ podcasts are more my thing 😉

Just finished reading….

Imagine. Your new partner books you both on a luxury cruise, everything is perfect until you wake up in your cabin after the first night and your partner isn’t there. Hmm – gone for breakfast without you maybe? Nope. It seems the entire ship is suddenly empty of people and their luggage, including crew and captain – cabins have all been vacated, and you seem to be the only person running around a huge fast moving liner, out at sea, trying to find another human soul.

The Last Passenger by Will Dean.

Less than half way through the book, the most unlikely of explanations seems to be revealed, quite the unexpected, an outrageous turn of events. Sadistic is probably putting it mildly when you think you’ve cottoned onto what’s really driving the whole predicament.

Then the ending takes a jack-in-the-box type twist that brings it all to a very swift ‘happy ever after’ type ending that just doesn’t seem to fit properly.

Overall, a very interesting storyline, but I’m not bothered about keeping this one, might pass it on – good for a one day read.

Audio Books

Despite all my protests in a previous post about audio books not being ‘real books’ which I still stand by, I have embraced audio books for what they’re worth.

I joined Amazon Audible, decided to give it a try and take advantage of the many free books and podcasts available to listen to as well as the reduced rate on those with a cost.

Thing is though – I only really listen to things on audio that I probably wouldn’t consider buying, and listen to things to pass the time. If it sounds riveting enough for me to want it on my physical book shelves then I’ll buy it in physical form.

It’s true – an audio book can be playing in the background while I’m doing other things…or when I have too much to carry around and don’t want to add a book to my already lead weight hand bag during routine commutes.

Audio books/podcasts definitely have a place, and fill in the gaps when a book in hand isn’t the best fit….though some of the podcasts are a bit sketchy….seems like anyone can make a podcast and put it on Amazon theses days.

What are your thoughts on it?

Currently listening to:

When books become films

The Penguin Lessons

I read the book years ago. Now there’s a film – yay!! Has anyone seen it? It’s on my ‘to watch’ list. ‘The book is always better’ but it will be interesting to see how they’ve brought it to life.

Anyone seen it?

Overheard

Sharing struggles

I’m sat in a busy station restaurant waiting for my train and the couple behind me were talking about ex partners:

Man: said he finished with someone because she was doing cocaine. One day he returned home to find her at the kitchen table with three friends all snorting. Meanwhile, the mother of his son has been poisoning his son against him. The man works for a business that doesn’t pay sick pay. A member of his team has been off for four months with mental health struggles – he said he could have done with four months off sick during the time his son’s mother wouldn’t let him see his son. 😞

Woman: talked about a lovely man she used to be with but his drinking caused the relationship to end.

Disappointed

Man on the phone: “what do you mean he’s not coming today??? That was gonna’ be the highlight of my week!”. (wonder who was meant to be coming) 🤔

No sympathy

A couple on the train sat in the seats in front of me:

Woman: what were you doing with your bag, again?

Man: what was I doing with my bag??

Woman: Yeah, you were down there for ages

Man: I went to the loo

Woman: Again!!!!!! (loudly) What’s wrong with ya’

👀 (poor guy)

Spotted

King of the loo. Bathroom wall art inspo?

New toilet seat anyone? Hippo maybe….

How long can you hang?

Spotted on Oxford Street a few weeks ago…they make it look so easy

Overconfidence

This was the seal sticker on some takeaway delivered to me at home.

Yes…think positively but don’t get ahead of yourself!

Unfortunately, the food wasn’t great at all, I took a risk ordering from somewhere on Deliveroo that I hadn’t tried before (give a small business a chance type thing) but the food was disappointing – my review will not tally with the chest beating message on the sticker 🙃

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, have a great week ahead and we’ll have another quick cuppa soon! ✨🤗🔆💛

I love your posts, Cherryl. Each one just brings me to where you are on a mini-vacation. It is good to see you posting and I look forward to each of them. As far as audiobooks, I listen all the time while I am working and painting. They are wonderful for me and what I do. I tend to fall asleep if I try to read in the evening (HA!) so having audiobooks allows me to read while doing tasks that don’t require me to ‘think’ too much! Take care and thanks!

I’ll join you in a mint tea Cherryl! Thoroughly enjoyed reading this post, all your musings, observations and thoughts. For the record I don’t like what’s happening with AI as well although I do think it’s here to stay. As Maxwell Smart used to say “if only it was used for good, instead of evil.” Lol. Hopefully. The Last Passenger sounded quite different. Forget audio books although I do see a place for them on a long trip, though I prefer music. And a kindle. I love my kindle! 😊 Nice to hear from you anyway. Stay well and happy blogging.

I also prefer music to an audio book, but a good podcast works for me too. Not sure I’ll keep the audio subscription going for long….and haven’t listened to anything for the past two months so I’m paying for nothing – might cancel it …..we’ll see, might give it another month and try and make an effort to find something interesting. Kindles are great and make a lot of sense, esp for travelling light but just not for me, I don’t like reading from a screen and just love holding my books lol. Very best wishes Miriam 🔆 🤗
