Despite being obsessed with taking lots of photographs, I am not a professional photographer, and on the grand scheme of things I’d rate myself as an amateur when it comes to the detail and science behind advanced photography and related equipment.
I have a digital SLR and a small pocket sized compact as my main ‘go-to’ cameras. These have been loyal to me for more years than I care to mention, and have produced photographs that I absolutely adore.
However, I have come to realise just how much additional bulk and weight I carry around with me (on holiday etc) with the cameras and lenses I have at the moment.
Lens 1: 14-42mm
Lens 2: 45-150mm
Pocket compact: 4.7-23.5mm
What I would really like, is one of two things:
- Ideally a compact camera that does not require bulky lenses, but with the same lens capability of the two lenses I currently have.
- An SLR with the combined lens capability of the lenses I currently have.
The first option would be preferable to keep weight and bulk down.
I’ve also been coming across a lot of mentions about ‘mirror less’ cameras….
I’m never going to be a ‘light traveller’ until I sort this out!
Any tips or recommendations would be much appreciated…..
I found a few possible contenders to save up for, but would like to keep costs as low as possible, though sometimes you only get what you pay for:
Decisions, dilemmas, deliberations and a headache, the joys of camera shopping!

I got the Lumix GF7 for about £300 and I’ve been pretty happy with it. It’s a mirror less one xx

I think I’m going to go for the Nikon Coolpix A900 – zoom and focal length are my main selling points and I think this one ticks my boxes…..hoping to make a decision and purchase by then end of the month!! Decisions decisions 😊📷

Looking for cameras is always difficult. I am not techie but I have always loved Canon. I just bought my boyfriend the Powershot SX620. I own two older versions of the Powershot with no complaints. Can’t wait to see what you get.

Thanks, I’ll have a look at that. Arrgghh, this is so much harder than buying shoes lol!! There are just so many types to choose from and then I recently started coming across a lot of positive mentions about ‘mirrorless’ cameras – that seem to be the latest ‘in thing’ – anyway, I think I’m going to really take my time shopping around for this one 😊📷

I’m also on the lookout for a good camera so let me know what you’ve decided eventually 🙂

I went for the Nikon Coolpix – will probably blog about it once I’ve given it a good run!
